Thirteen International Welfare Development faculty students and one caregiver
enjoyed a two week program at the Universiti Sains Malaysia located in Penang city,
Malaysia from February 11th to the 26th. Students enjoyed a variety of lectures given
by USM professors and took part in culture classes. They also enjoyed visiting local
culturally significant sites around the city. One of these included a World Heritage site,
Georgetown. The highlight of the stay was a two-day homestay at a Kampong or village
where they experienced some traditional Malaysian cultural activities, such as a wedding
and various games. All of the students said they had a wonderful experience and could
make new friends.
